“The aim of yoga is not to touch your toes, it’s what you learn on the way down”. To be exactly where you are, with what you have and be at ease in your whole body, mind and breath. As you practice your class with me, notice where there is resistance in your body, where there is tightness, where your breath may become laboured. This is the beginning of the mindfulness practice of yoga. We are not aiming to push past the resistance, rather observe it, regulate the breath, and choose to be where your body takes you without forced effort.
There will still be effort involved to attain each pose, of consciously activating your muscles, of stepping out of comfort zones and trying something new, but it is very much a practice of honouring your body too. The fine balance of holding on and letting go.
